Reality Check: NDP Mediscare and Their Hypocrisy on Health Care

This week, Alberta’s United Conservative government announced Bill 30, new legislation to strengthen our public health care system and improve wait times.

One of the ways to do this is by allowing more chartered surgical facilities that can provide more publicly funded healthcare.

That means more surgeries and lower wait times.

Common sense, right?

But that hasn’t stopped the NDP from pulling out their full mediscare campaign, calling it “americanization” of health care.

It’s the same old fear and smear campaign.

The fact is, under the NDP 40,000 publicly funded surgeries were delivered per year in private clinics. That’s 15 per cent of all surgeries.

They never shut down these clinics and chartered providers because they know the system works, that more choice and more facilities for patients leads to better outcomes.

But for the NDP, the only outcomes they worry about is total dollars spent, not patients cured.

It’s shameful.

United Conservatives are focused on actually improving patient care and outcomes so our public health care system is there for Albertans when they need it.
