Since the NDP were sent to the opposition benches by Albertans, they’ve shown their true colours.
Bill 1, The Critical Infrastructure Defence Act, gets tough on those who riot on or block critical infrastructure like roads, pipelines, train tracks, or bridges.
It substantially increases fines to those who actively participate in the blockades, or to those who provide funding, materials, and assistance.
It sends a loud and clear message that Alberta will not tolerate lawlessness. It sends the message that in Alberta, we prioritize the rule of law over anarchy.
But for the NDP, they’re more worried about impressing extremist activists at Extinction Rebellion. As a result, they don’t support this legislation.
CONFIRMED: The NDP will vote against Bill 1, the Critical Infrastructure Defence Act.

Since landing in opposition, the NDP have shown their true colours. They're more worried about impressing anti-pipeline activists than standing up for Alberta.#ableg pic.twitter.com/ERTMmDaiEo
It’s hard to be surprised anymore by the NDP.
They show up to protests that demand all fossil fuels be kept in the ground. They promote the idea that fringe activists from Extinction Rebellion belong in our classrooms. They are revolted by any United Conservative MLA who wears a shirt in support of our oil and gas sector.
Albertans deserve better.
