While in government, Rachel Notley and her team managed to keep a lid on just how truly unhinged her team of MLAs are and what they really think of Alberta.
But ever since Albertans sent the NDP to the opposition benches, NDP MLAs have become increasingly open on just how fringe their views are and how little they think of Alberta voters.
NDP MLA Janis Irwin thinks Alberta should allow anti-pipeline extremists who block major bridges and highways into our classrooms to teach our kids. Irwin has also openly promoted calls to “defund the police” – a policy overwhelmingly rejected by the vast majority of Albertans in recent Angus Reid polling.
And now, NDP MLA Marie Renaud is suggesting that Alberta’s United Conservative government, elected by more than one million Albertans, is “worse than Iran” when it comes to democracy.
Yes, that Iran. The Iranian dictatorship, ruled by an unelected ‘Supreme Leader’. The Iran that imprisons dissidents, executes LGBTQ Iranians, and is a state-sponsor of terrorism.
It’s worth pointing out that this is all in the context of an article from an Ottawa-based professor demanding that authority be taken away from elected officials in the provinces and into the hands of unelected health officials.
It’s been more than a year since the election. Maybe it’s time for the NDP to accept the results.
